Job Description:

TS Banking Group is seeking to hire a Payroll Specialist role in our Treynor, Iowa location. This position will process all data and responsibilities pertinent to the payroll, including calculating pay and deductions, preparing reports and tax payments, and maintaining employee records.

Preferred education and/or experience includes:: Two-year Associates degree from an accredited university or institution with a major area of study in human resources, business administration, accounting, finance, or other closely related field. Professional work experience in a Human Resources department may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Two to three years directly related payroll experience, including multi-state payroll, is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform all in-house payroll procedures, such as entering payroll data, verifying employee timesheets, calculating pay and deductions, and preparing reports and tax payments.

  • Process and maintain payroll data including timesheet verification, employment verification, W-4 updates, direct deposit enrollments and changes, W-2 reissues, etc.

  • Maintain employee records with current information related to wage rates, tax deductions and exemptions, benefit status, etc.

  • Review and reconcile benefit deductions including health, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.

  • Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve payroll discrepancies.

  • Determine payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer’s social security, unemployment, and workers compensation.

  • Report employee payroll contributions to third party vendors as needed.

  • Knowledge of wage withholding orders and garnishments.

  • Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws; particularly in the states the company has a presence.

  • Complete multi work site reports for assigned geographical regions.

  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for compensation and benefits.

  • Effectively handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously; remain calm under pressure.

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Perform other project work, as assigned.

  • Comply with all company and banking regulations, policies, and procedures.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain educational and professional expertise through attendance at job related seminars, conferences and workshops, and involvement in professional civic and community groups in leadership positions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES. There are no supervisory responsibilities in this position.

LANGUAGE SKILLS. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES. Must have the ability to operate PC and printer, copy and fax machines and telephone.

Has moderate contact with insurance companies, third party vendors, etc.
